Hello! I’m Ashleigh and I own and manage Plush Text Communications. I am a translator, copywriter, project manager and the published author of a young adult novel. Like many small business owners, I wear many hats and have a can-do attitude.
I studied Translation at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada, and earned an Honours B.A. in French-English Translation. I took additional courses in Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, and I spent the first year of my degree at York University on the Glendon College Campus in Toronto, Ontario, studying International Affairs and Development.
I am a member of the Editors’ Association of Canada and a member of the Simcoe County Young Professionals Association. I’m a person of many passions and I’m interested in how the world works. I have a special interest in emerging technologies, traveling to new places, and making wine.
I am committed to my community and actively involved in causes I care about. I am currently the Secretary on the Board of Directors for Barrie & District Christmas Cheer organization. In my spare time, I volunteer as a French-English translator with Sylang based in Paris, France. I also volunteer with HealthMap (Global Disease Alert Map), a joint initiative between Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston. I used to volunteer as a radio announcer and regular contributor to Spaces, Places and Faces, a radio show at Carleton University’s CKCU station in Ottawa that covers hard-hitting topics in the geography and environmental fields.
I honestly believe that we are in the world to make life better for others—with our time, attitude, money, whatever we can spare—to the best of our means. I like to make a special effort to give back and help others make small changes in their lives that will make a big difference in the world.
I love to meet and interact with people so if you have a question, comment, funny story, or recipe to share, feel free to e-mail me.
I can’t wait to hear from you!
